Understanding & Performing Simple Rhythms

The ‘Simple rhythms and how to play them’ video shows students how the individual one beat rhythm groups are created from quavers, semiquavers and dotted quavers. It also shows how to clap the individual rhythms and how to combine them into 4 beat rhythms. The second video gives more practice by students clapping back the rhythms.

Floor Rhythms

Introduce students to 1 beat rhythm groups with these floor rhythms. They print out on A4 paper (or US letter paper). I have laminated them and cut them to size but you don’t have to. It makes it easy to create rhythms in a time signature as you need to select one rhythm group per beat. Students can perform the rhythm groups as a class.
